Professorship
Almut Balleer is Professor of Applied Macroeconomics at TU Dortmund University since November 2023. Prof Balleer works at RWI Essen as Co-Head of the Competence Centre Growth, Business Cycles and Public Finance.
She was Professor of Applied Economics at RWTH Aachen University and Assistant Professor at the Institute for International Economic Studies (IIES) at Stockholm University. She received her PhD from the University of Bonn and attended the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona as part of the European Doctoral Programme with a Marie Curie Scholarship. She is a research affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and IIES Stockholm and a research professor at the ifo Institute Munich.
Her research interests are macroeconomics, in particular labour market economics and monetary economics, and applied econometrics. Her research has included the role of technological progress and human capital in cyclical fluctuations in hours worked, employment and unemployment. Recent projects are dedicated to the evaluation of economic and monetary policy, in particular short-time work, as well as the influence of financial market frictions on price and employment adjustments of companies.
